gov.uk guidance on contracts: don't be a dick
The UK government has published some guidance, "Guidance on responsible contractual behaviour in the performance and enforcement of contracts impacted by the Covid-19 emergency".
What it says
It's five pages long, and says "don't be a dick".
I mean, I'm paraphrasing a bit — the actual wording is that "responsible and fair behaviour is strongly encouraged", followed by a list of “dos and don’ts” — but that's the gist of it.
It's guidance, and doesn't change the law, or whatever your contract might say.
It might change how some bodies might view disputes, and it could be relevant if you have contractual or regulatory obligations to behave reasonably, or similar.
Or don’t. It’s up to you.
